You’ve Got Your Room, I’ve Got Mine

by Bob Malone
From “Bob Malone” (1998)

You call me up on the telephone
Bad connection from another time zone
I can’t believe you’re so far away
It seems like only yesterday
We shared a home, yeah we shared a life
Now you’ve got your room, I’ve got mine

Conversation comes hard, but still we try
Two separated lovers leading separate lives
Left with nothin’ much to say
And all of this small talk
Is just a long way to say goodbye
You’ve got your room, I’ve got mine

BRIDGE
And the four strong walls
Built to keep our two lives apart
Could never be as strong
As the walls around our hearts

We cut our lives apart & left no trace except the scars
I took mine, you took yours, we split up what was ours
And let the love right out the door
And now our only obligation is a phone call
If we can spare the time
You’ve got your room, I’ve got mine

So we say goodbye, and hang up the phone
Relieved that it’s over, but sad ‘cause we’re still alone
With nothing left to show
‘Cause the only thing we have in common now
Besides another lonely night
Is that you’ve got your room, I’ve got mine
