Fats Is On The Stereo, and All Is Right With The World

Dear Mom:
Well, I just got back from my Three Weeks Without A Day Off Tour (’97) of the Northeastand as I sit here in my living room listening to Fats Domino and being warmed by the sun through my window, I must admit it’s good to be back. The gigs were great and the people were wonderful as always, but three solid weeks of rainy, bleak New England weather nearly drove me stark raving postal. It was so bad that I actually started missing L.A…can you believe that? Of course, when I'm in Texas this August, a nice brisk New Hampshire winter day will start looking pretty damn good.
I will be at American Pie (the old At My Place) this month. It is likely that the head of A&R from GRP Records will be there. He is very interested in signing me and this show will probably be the deciding factor — it will be the first time he sees us live. Of course, this being the music business, all of this could fall through at any time and I'll never hear from the guy again. God knows it won't be the first time. But just in case the planets are correctly aligned and he shows…a packed house couldn't hurt. Besides, it's been a while and I'd love to see you all again.
Lastly, I'd like to inform you that in an unexpected, ironic twist of fate, proving that anything can happen, one of my songs was voted as a winner in this year's Great American Love Song Contest. I feel honored and all, but I can't help but wonder if the rest of my song catalogue would get me disqualified if they heard it.
Love, Bob
